The Derabis College, Derabis Kendrapara started equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) to assist the students from marginalized sections including the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Communities (OBCs-non-creamy layer), Minority Communities, Women and Dibyanga Students etc, for acquiring studies at the college. The major problems faced by these section students like Dibyanga or of minority status, arise from disabling socio-economic and cultural barrier.

The Equal Opportunity Cell, opened in this college as per the instruction by UGC defining the necessity of a mechanism within the college structure which would give equal opportunity for all sections.

The Equal Opportunity Cell organises both curricular and co-curricular activities to orients the students of this above particular section.

Different training and development programs and remedial coaching’s are organised for the students.

The Cell arranges various programmes for the awareness of the students such as Gender Issues, Human Rights, displacement of marginalised groups, environmental awareness.

OBJECTIVES:

To create a conducive environment of Equal Opportunity through various awareness programme.

To Organise various skill development programmes for enhancing employability of students.

To accelerate legal redressal in matters of violation of equal opportunity.

To cooperate with students for acquiring, financial help and scholarships if available by government and other funding agencies.

To provide information and act as a, counselling-cum-guidance centre for students belonging to the marginalized sections, especially with regard to academic, financial and other matters.

To create a suitable atmosphere for maintain a cordial relationship among the students from marginalized sections and other section.

To extend help/support to the students from marginalized sections to overcome problems and barriers emanating from discrimination at any level within its mandate.

To arrange seminars/symposia/workshops/conferences/exhibitions, etc. based on socio economic and political issues of different ethnic minorities group.

A barrier free access to all buildings of colleges, departments, libraries, hostels and offices of the College.

Smooth and efficient running of a Resource Centre that specializes in addressing the needs of Dibyanga in all categories including visual, hearing, orthopaedic, and neurological.

Implementation of No Discrimination and Zero Rejection policy.
